Description

Baseball/Softball Power Fin Swing Trainer by Markwort. Work against air resistance (similar to swinging a bat in a swimming pool). Build swing strength, increase hand/bat speed, develop stronger wrists. Batting donuts have been found to do more harm than good, as they upset your natural swing process and the weight distribution of the bat. Swing mechanics are not altered with Power Fins. Slip the fins over the barrel of the bat. One size fits all baseball and softball bats, little league, high school and college.

It’s true, as one earlier reviewer said, that this will not stay put on youth barrels. I’ve even had it slip off thinner turning models of adult bats. So be sure the bat you’ll use it on is thick enough, even if that means using a different bat for warmup. (It’s also important to assemble the item carefully.)Apart from that, however, I give this product high marks. Using air resistance isn’t just a variation on using weights – it’s an important difference, and I think a beneficial one. What’s the most important part of your swing kinetics? Accelerating the bat through the hitting zone. As youth coaches say, “throwing” the barrel of the bat at the ball. Now, consider what a batting weight does. It makes you fight mass/inertia at the very top of your swing. It’s hard to get the bat started. But once you get it going, inertia keeps it going. By the time the barrel reaches the hitting zone, your hands are just along for the ride. You aren’t being trained to push through. You may even be unconsciously trying to slow it down by that point.Air resistance is the opposite. Resistance is light at the top of the swing, and gets stronger as you go. By the time you reach the hitting zone, you’re fighting the air the most – training your muscles to power through.Everyone’s experience may vary, and no training aid helps if you bring the wrong mechanics. But after decades of using donuts, I’ve had very good results with this for several seasons in a row. I hope this TL;DR screed will help encourage someone who may have been inclined to dismiss this as a gimmick.
